| 17 Sep | BEFORE THERE WERE TAPS. Ken Houlton is giving an illustrated talk on the water supply in our villages before the arrival of piped water. Why were there so many wells? Why is the water so close to the surface in a village on top of a hill? There will be lots of old and new photographs, diagrams and maps. A Wednesday meeting in Longworth Village Hall 7.30pm |
| 16 Oct | LONGWORTH’S ROLE IN THE COLD WAR. John Turner returns to illuminate another hidden aspect of our local history. His focus is on Longworth in the Cold War and the Royal Observer Corps’ Bunker. A Thursday meeting in Southmoor Village Hall 7.30pm |
| 20 Nov | THE GREEN MAN IN OXFORDSHIRE. Tim Healey on the trail of the Green Men of Oxfordshire. Are these wild men of the wood, with faces sprouting greenery, pagan symbols of seasonal fertility, mediating between man and nature? Many of these symbols, have been absorbed into Christianity (on the right is one in West Hanney Church). A Thursday meeting in Southmoor Village Hall 7.30pm |
| 11 Dec | CHRISTMAS EVENT. Peter Hearn (alias ‘Beltaine’) will tell us about storytelling from mythology to the present day. There will be local tales, a few humorous ones and a Christmas tale.
